The platform also features intuitive navigation and access to previous queries, helping users revisit information and streamline their research.
The resource has been added to the A-Z List.

LibGuides about Open Access Week and Media and Information Literacy Week
To mark International Open Access Week 2026, NU Library highlights its Open Access Week LibGuide, a resource dedicated to promoting open access and sustainable scholarly communication. The guide introduces the principles and benefits of open access, explaining how removing subscription barriers can make research more accessible, discoverable, widely read, and cited. It also provides information about Nazarbayev University’s Open Access Policy, highlights the role of open access in increasing the visibility and societal impact of research, and features a curated collection of books on open access publishing, institutional repositories, and scholarly communication. The guide serves as a useful starting point for students, faculty, and researchers interested in exploring open access and learning how to make scholarly knowledge more widely available.

Recent Events
During October, NU Library hosted a variety of events and learning activities that brought together students, researchers, and library professionals. From book discussions and research skills training to open access initiatives and academic conferences, the events highlighted the Library’s commitment to supporting learning, teaching, research, and professional development.
Book Discussion "Books That Matter to Us"
The book discussion event brought together book lovers to share their favorite reads and the stories that had left a lasting impression on them. Participants were invited to present a meaningful book through a PowerPoint presentation, essay, or short talk, reflecting on how literature had helped them navigate life, find comfort, gain inspiration, or simply experience the joy of reading. The event celebrated the power of books to connect people, spark meaningful conversations, and inspire new perspectives through the stories that mattered most to them.

RA Bootcamp Sessions
In October, the NU Library continued to support the university community’s research journey through its RA Bootcamp sessions, designed to strengthen research skills and build confidence at every stage of the research process. The sessions covered a range of essential topics, including navigating research resources, exploring qualitative, quantitative, and bibliometric methodologies, finding and managing research data, and publishing research through open access. As part of International Open Access Week 2026, the programme also highlighted the importance of open scholarly communication and making research more accessible to a wider audience.
International Open Access Week 2026 at NU Library: The Cost of Knowledge
NU Library celebrated International Open Access Week from 19 to 23 October 2026 under the theme “The Cost of Knowledge.” The week-long programme highlighted NU’s commitment to open access, offering faculty, students, and staff opportunities to learn, engage, and reflect on the future of knowledge sharing. It emphasized that while access to and the sharing of knowledge are fundamental to advancing research and education, the rising costs of accessing and disseminating scholarly information remain a significant challenge. Open access is particularly important in Kazakhstan, helping ensure that research from our region is visible, discoverable, cited, and used rather than remaining behind access barriers.

Embedded Sessions
In October libraries continued to visit the Schools to meet students right where they study. Embedded sessions are tailored to the class, the assignment, and the questions students really have. It’s one of our favorite ways to turn “where do I even start?” into “I’ve got this.”

We offered sessions in GSE, SoE, GSPP, SoM, GSB: from smart search techniques to questioning what was found. Thanks to the instructors for welcoming us into their classes, and to our librarians for keeping every session practical and engaging.
Last Wednesday, students, faculty members and staff came together for a hands-on session with the TLSO. It was lively, curious and full of “can it do this?” event. We practiced prompt engineering followed by fact-checking AI outputs, spotting errors and biases, and looking at AI-generated information with a healthy dose of curiosity.

Participants told us, although they already know about prompt engineering, there is a space to learn. They left with practical tips they could use right away, and that checking AI outputs critically felt much more doable than they expected.

Congratulations to ...
Nazarbayev University Library is pleased to announce the launch of the NU Research Data Repository (NU RDR), a platform designed to support the management, preservation, and sharing of research data produced by the NU research community.

The NU Research Data Repository is an official institutional platform for securely preserving, publishing, and sharing research datasets. It supports researchers in addressing publishers’ Data Availability Statement (DAS) requirements and aligns with international best practices for research data management and the FAIR Principles (Findable, Accessible, Interoperable, and Reusable).
Researchers can deposit and publish datasets, receive Digital Object Identifiers (DOIs), and enhance the visibility, accessibility, and citability of their research outputs.

Contact the Library Research Support Office to get assistance throughout the research lifecycle, including Data Management Plans (DMPs), research data management processes, metadata preparation, and dataset submission, and guidance on depositing and publishing research data at library@nu.edu.kz

The Library would like to express its sincere gratitude to NUITS, especially Nurlan Daulbayev, Shynbolat Galymov, Didar Khalelov, Samat Sutbayev, and Seilkhan Sydykov, for their valuable technical expertise, dedication, and hard work in developing and implementing the Data Repository.
