This week, the Teaching and Learning Support Office successfully launched the first session of its new pilot program, "Virtual Professionalism for Academic Librarians: Ethics, AI, and Professional Digital Presence." The session was delivered in both English and Kazakh, reflecting our commitment to providing inclusive, high-quality professional development that supports the diverse needs of the Library.
This program equips library professionals with the knowledge and practical skills needed to navigate these evolving challenges while upholding the University's standards of academic integrity, ethics, and information stewardship.
During this 2 hour session participants explored key areas including digital professionalism, responsible AI use, institutional policies and legal considerations, information integrity, digital reputation, and evidence-based approaches to identifying and responding to misinformation and AI-generated content. Through practical case studies and collaborative discussions(red line and ethical dillemmas), participants examined real-world scenarios involving AI in the workplace, confidential information, copyright, privacy, and professional communication.
A defining feature of the session was that speakers consistently connected the discussions to Nazarbayev University's policies, professional expectations, and the evolving role of academic librarians as trusted stewards of information. This program also demonstrates how specialized expertise is being cultivated and shared within the Library, positioning it as a valuable institutional resource for advancing responsible AI practices, digital professionalism, and information literacy across the University.
