The NU Library Expert Discusses Kazakhstan’s Ratification of the Marrakesh Treaty on 24kz
An expert from the Nazarbayev University Library specializing in assistive technologies and information accessibility, Ziyat Abdykaimov, participated in a discussion on the ratification of the Marrakesh Treaty to Facilitate Access to Published Works for Persons Who Are Blind, Visually Impaired, or Otherwise Print Disabled on the 24kz television channel.
Ziyat Abdykaimov emphasized: "There is a significant issue of book famine for people with visual impairments. The Marrakesh Treaty aims to balance their right to access printed materials with copyright regulations."
The ratification of the Marrakesh Treaty by Kazakhstan will be an important step toward ensuring equal access to knowledge for people with disabilities, including those with visual impairments. As a result, thousands of Kazakhstani citizens will gain access to specialized resources, and books will become available in adapted formats.
