Book Presentation: Rediscovery of a Lost History of Central Asian Christianity by Kevin White was held at the NU Library

On Tuesday, May 5, 2026, the NU Library had the pleasure of hosting a captivating book presentation by Kevin White, Visiting Scholar at NU.

The event featured his latest publication, Rediscovery of a Lost History of Central Asian Christianity, unveiling a fascinating and often overlooked chapter of the region’s past. From the discovery of a carved stone bearing a Syriac cross in East Kazakhstan to the identification of the lost Silk Road city of Ilibalyk, the research highlights a rich pre-Islamic Christian heritage dating back to the 6th century.

The session was expertly moderated by Daniel Scarborough, PhD, Associate Professor at the NU School of Sciences and Humanities, Department of History, Philosophy and Religious Studies, who guided an engaging and insightful discussion. Participants also learned about ongoing international research initiatives, including efforts to advance Syriac studies and archaeological collaboration across Central Asia.

We are pleased to share that a copy of the book has been donated to the NU Library and will be available to our community. Thank you to everyone who joined us for this enriching and inspiring event!
