Classics Caravan: Celebrating Kazakh and World Classics

We are pleased to invite you to the Classics Caravan, a special event celebrating the richness of classical literature in the Kazakh language.

Organized by the NU Book Club in collaboration with Qasym Publishing House, this event aims to promote a culture of reading and spark greater interest in Kazakh-language editions of both national and world classics.

Planned Event Highlights

Book Fair by Qasym Publishing House
Books will be offered at publisher prices, without additional markup, and with special discounts. The fair will feature more than 100 works of Kazakh classical literature and around 80 notable works of world classics translated into Kazakh.

Presentations of Newly Published Translations
Featured titles include Kazakh translations of significant works of world literature, such as M. Bulgakov’s Heart of a Dog, Herodotus’ History, André Maurois’ An Open Letter to a Young Man About Life, Stefan Zweig’s Amok, and Leo Tolstoy’s Resurrection, among others.

Children’s World and Kazakh Fairy Tale Series
The program will include titles such as Andersen’s The Ugly Duckling and The Wild Swans, along with Kazakh classics including Alty Tülki, Khan men Qumyrsqalar, Er Töstik, and Ayaz Bi.

Guest Speakers and Reflections
The event will feature short talks on the relevance of classical literature in the digital age, as well as the role of translation, publishing, and reading culture in expanding access to literature in Kazakh.

Participation of Invited Guests
The event will bring together translators, scholars, writers, and public figures. Expected participants include:

• Kenzhebay Akhmetov Karibozuly - poet, writer, playwright, translator, member of the Writers’ Union of Kazakhstan, member of the Union of Theatre Workers of Kazakhstan, Corresponding Member of the Kazakhstan Academy of Pedagogical Sciences, Candidate of Philological Sciences, and Associate Professor.
• Erlan Ashim - prominent Kazakhstani entrepreneur, founder and CEO of the dairy factories Natige and Milk House, founder of the Kazakh-language publishing house Qasym Kitap, active member of business communities, and lecturer.
• Perizat Myrzakhmet - blogger and reading advocate.
• Invited poets and writers may also include figures such as Serik Seitman and Toqtaräli Tańjaryq, among others.

Open Discussion and Q&A
Students will have the opportunity to engage with speakers in an open conversation about books, translation, and reading culture.

Book Signing Session
Attendees will have the opportunity to receive signed copies from participating authors.

Two copies of the presented books will be donated to the NU Library.
