Academic Publishing and Research Integrity Learning Successfully Launched at the NU Library
This week, the NU Library proudly hosted the launch of a course titled “Academic Publishing Support and Research Integrity,” developed by librarians from the Teaching and Learning Support Office and the Research Support Office. Designed specifically for the newly established Nazarbayev University Research Administration (NURA), the course aims to empower researchers, grant administrators, and academic staff with the skills and knowledge needed to manage award operations, disseminate research effectively, and uphold ethical publication practices. The opening of the course was supported by Vice Provost for Academic Affairs, Dr. Loretta O'Donnell.
The course launched with Modules 1 and 2, which introduced the importance of pre- and post-award operations in research publication, NU’s research policies, and the value of ethical publishing practices. A pre-test was conducted to assess participants’ baseline knowledge. Module 2 focused on selecting high-impact journals using key metrics like impact factor, h-index, and CiteScore, while emphasizing the ethical use of quartiles and percentiles. Module 3 guided researchers through journal evaluation tools (Scopus, Web of Science, SciVal, etc.), article types, peer review, submission stages, Kazakh journals indexed in Scopus and WoS, and Research Data Management (RDM) essentials.
Stay tuned for further updates on this training initiative as NU continues to build a strong culture of research integrity and academic excellence.
