Beyond Algorithms: Ethical AI for Future Innovators

As part of the ISSAI Summer Research Program, the NU Library hosted a training session on AI Ethics and Responsible Use of Artificial Intelligence.

Artificial intelligence is transforming the way we work, learn, and live. While AI tools offer exciting opportunities for innovation, research, and problem-solving, they also raise important questions related to academic integrity, environmental and societal impact, safety, ethics, and the long-term implications of increasingly powerful technologies.

It was a pleasure to meet and speak with talented and promising students from across Kazakhstan who were selected to participate in the SRP. By dedicating their summer to research, innovation, and collaboration, these future scientists, engineers, and entrepreneurs are taking important steps toward shaping the technologies of tomorrow. The Library is more than happy to support these aspiring researchers by sharing expertise in information and AI literacy, research methodologies, and academic integrity.

During the session, we discussed the principles of responsible AI use and development that can help shape a safe, secure, and beneficial future. Students also learned about key international, national, and organizational initiatives, frameworks, and policies that guide the governance and regulation of AI technologies.

The training encouraged participants to think critically about the opportunities and challenges of AI and to become responsible innovators in the rapidly evolving digital world.
