In Love with Knowledge: Exploring love through novels, research, and ideas

This Valentine’s season, NU Library invites you to look at love beyond romance. In Love with Knowledge presents a curated selection of books that explore love in literature, philosophy, psychology, and cultural studies as both a timeless theme and a subject of academic inquiry.

At the heart of the selection is a recommendation from our librarian, Diana, from the Teaching and Learning Support Office. She chose Jane Eyre by Charlotte Brontë, a novel that reflects love grounded in dignity, equality, and inner strength.

The collection brings together classics such as Pride and Prejudice, Master and Margarita, and Scarlet Sails, alongside Kazakh-language titles including Ғашықтар by Ілияс Есенберлин and Махаббат, қызық мол жылдар by Әзілхан Нұршайықов. It also features interdisciplinary works such as The Art of Loving by Erich Fromm, Psychology of Love 101 by Karin Sternberg, and What’s Love Got to Do with It? by Thomas J. Scheff.

Resources are available in English, Kazakh, and Russian, both in print at the Main Library and online through our digital collections.
