New Classification System in the Library

As returning faculty and students may have noticed, we made a major change in the library over the summer. We began the process of changing the classification system used to organize books from Universal Dewey Classification (UDC) to Library of Congress Classification (LCC), and the bulk of our open access collection has been reorganized according to LCC.

Unfortunately, our catalog still only shows the UDC call number for all materials. Until we resolve this technical issue, please use the following site to find the LCC call number for a book: http://classify.oclc.org/classify2/. If you are searching in the library, feel free to use the catalog computers at the circulation. The Firefox browser on those is set to always show a tab to the webpage linked in this email.

Eventually the library catalog should show both UDC and LCC call numbers for all materials as we complete the process of relabeling and reorganizing our collection. Once that is completed, the catalog will show only the LCC call number.

We thank all our patrons for their patience during this process. If you have any questions or comments, please feel free to let any of us know.

Regards,

NU Library Staff
