Optical Fiber Biosensors: book presentation release

The presentation of the book entitled "Optical Fiber biosensors. Device Platforms, Biorecognition, Applications" was held at Nazarbayev University Library on 25th of May, 2022. The event gathered students, researchers and faculty members in biomedicine, engineering, and biology fields.

The book provides a comprehensive overview of the field of fiber optic sensors using an interdisciplinary approach that covers the fabrication of sensing devices and optical hardware, the functionalization to perform selective biorecognition, and the main applications of biosensors, with a present and a future outlook. The book was published by a renowned academic publisher - Academic Press/Elsevier.

NU Provost Ilesanmi Adesida made an opening speech pointing out the importance of having multidisciplinary team of authors when writing a book like this. Loretta O’Donnel (Vice Provost for Academic Affairs) highlighted the value of a book as tangible form of knowledge and thought.

Speakers gave a presentation on optical fiber biosensors covering technologies and operating principles, addressing the main applications of fiber optic biosensors. The presentation continued with a session of question and answers. It was then followed by a lab tour to show real optical fiber sensors, equipment used to fabricate and interrogate the sensors to produce optical fiber biosensors in the laboratory setting at NU.
