2) Patrons expressed their wish to enlarge the library collection by including the following:
-
- contemporary fiction in Kazakh and Russian;
- Kazakh literature in English; information about Kazakh history and culture in English;
- books on art, sports, and fashion;
- sci-fi books;
- advanced English grammar books;
- books on studying Spanish, French, and Arabic.
These suggestions have been taken into account by the library.
3) When searching for books on library shelves and information about books in the online library catalog, patrons experienced difficulties caused by the change to the Library of Congress Classification (LCC) System.
To help patrons in searching for books both in the library catalog and on the shelves, Patron Services staff arranged a schedule of 15-minute sessions during February and March 2016. The schedule was sent to library patrons by e-mail.
4) Patrons expressed some of their concerns about e-resources that were not accessible at the library or required more training for users.
The library hopes that in such cases patrons will be more proactive and communicate with Reference Department staff more intensively. If patrons experience difficulties with searching e-resources, they should visit library workshops conducted regularly. The Library Workshop Series schedule is regularly emailed to all library patrons.
NU faculty, staff, and graduate students can use the interlibrary loan service. To get an electronic copy of a necessary resource (a research journal article or a textbook page or chapter) via interlibrary loan, they have to send their request to interlibraryloan@nu.edu.kz. or fulfil the electronic form.
5) Issues with thin clients in the computer labs were another patron concern.
Most of the issues were caused by server work on the client stations. In order to help patrons, the library sent them a memo regarding management of the library thin clients.
We thank those of you who participated in the survey for your support and assistance.
Good luck in your studies, research, and teaching!
