The NU Library is open for the following external visitors on a request basis:

• staff and students of educational institutions and organizations that signed a corresponding contract or Memorandum;
• other persons submitted a request from the affiliated institution/organization listing the purposes and period of using the Library resources;
• short–term visitors attending the University for seminars, conferences, and meetings;
• family members of faculty/staff/students of the University (patrons aged 14 and under must be accompanied by an adult).

Request Process
A request letter should follow the steps below:

• Use official letterhead;
• Address your request letter to the NU Library Acting Director Tolkyn Jangulova;
• Ensure the letter is approved by the applicant’s Dean or Supervisor;
• Clearly describe the research topic or other purpose of the visit, including the intended timeline;
• For school students (Grades 9–12 only): a letter of permission from a parent or guardian, addressed to the school principal and indicating the specific days and times of visit to the NU Library is mandatory. This document must be submitted together with the request letter;
• Send a signed scan copy of the request letter to nu@nu.edu.kz;
• Submit the original letter to the Documentation Office (53 Kabanbay Batyr Ave., Block C2, Room 2017).

REQUEST SUBMISSION DOES NOT AUTOMATICALLY GRANT ACCESS.
The library will notify you of the status of your request via the return email address you provided.

Temporary Patrons with Granted Access:

• Temporary patrons are welcome to use the Library’s printed collections (on a read-only basis) and library facilities;
• Access to electronic resources may be restricted in adherence to licensing agreements and security protocols.
• Bookable rooms are not available to temporary patrons or visitors, including alumni;
• Assistive technologies of the Library are available for temporary patrons with disabilities, but requests for their use must be indicated in the request letter.

Temporary Patrons must:

• present a valid National ID when visiting the Library for registration;
• register at the Circulation Desk in the Reading Rooms on the 2nd or 3rd floors (Block 5);
• comply with all NU Library Policy and Internal Regulations;
• visit the Library during official working hours (as indicated on the Library’s main webpage).

Important Reminders:

• Access to the Library may be restricted during examination periods and major NU events;
• The Library does not provide storage space for temporary patrons’ personal belongings;
• Temporary patrons should not leave their personal belongings unattended, as library staff are not responsible for their safety.

We offer individual and group tours. Requests to visit the library should be made at least five days before the visit in a written letter.

The library tour includes walks through the library floors and an overview of the library collections, facilities, and resources supporting NU's achievements.

As an alumnus, you have on-campus access to most library databases and books. For one year after you graduate, you can log into the library website to access databases from off-campus. When you visit, please bring your alumni card.
