About the Conference
The Eurasian Academic Libraries Conference (EALC) is an annual library conference discussing current issues and trends in library and information services. Previously, it was called Library Connect (2011-2018), the International Conference on Emerging Global Trends in University Library Development (ICEGTULD - 2019).

Objectives
  • Increase awareness about emerging trends and developments in academic librarianship,
  • Enable professional networking and international cooperation,
  • Inspire research ideas,
  • Introduce international experts,
  • Ensure constructive exchange of information, best practices, and innovation,
  • Establish conversations between researchers and practitioners.

The conference logo is composed of several parts:
  • Abbreviations of the name of the conference - “EALC” (Eurasian Academic Libraries Conference) with the date and venue (Astana is the capital of Kazakhstan);
  • Panorama view of Astana is above the abbreviation of the conference name;
  • Symbol of the unity of Europe and Asia, depicted in the form of two oval figures under the Shanyrak on the left side. Shanyrak is a round shape that depicts the ceiling of a yurt, which for Kazakh people is a symbol of a home, the unity of the earthly and the sublime, an heirloom.
The colors of the logo are from the Nazarbayev University corporate palette. The burgundy color symbolizes dignity, strength, and solidarity; green is for hope, friendship, education, honor, and aspiration.

About the Venue

Nazarbayev University (NU) is a flagship academic institution in Central Asia with ambitions to achieve global recognition as a top-tier research university.
The NU Library was founded in 2010 to cater to the research and information needs of the Nazarbayev University community. It houses a vast collection of close to 200,000 print volumes, as well as collections of electronic books and journals, microfiches, DVDs, and electronic databases, primarily in English. It is one of the most advanced academic libraries in Central Asia. It was the first to offer 24/7 access to its readers in 2018. In 2023, new Alma and Primo systems were implemented, making it the first library in Kazakhstan to operate this library platform.
About Astana City

The young capital of Kazakhstan recently celebrated its 25th anniversary. Astana is in the top ten most attractive tourist cities in the Commonwealth of Independent States (CIS), as reported on turstat.com.

If you need a visa, it is important to apply well in advance, as processing times can take several days or weeks.
If you require a visa, we advise you to obtain and submit an official Letter of Invitation from the conference organizers to help facilitate the visa process.

You are welcome to book your own accommodation other than the hotels offered below within walking distance or close to Nazarbayev University.
Note: *Number of rooms with discount in the hotels which Nazarbayev University has the agreement with might be limited.
Transportation

From the Airport or the Railway Station
Taxi Services
  • A taxi ride to the city will take approximately 20–45 minutes, depending on the distance to your destination, and may cost from 2000 tenge. Payment can be made either in cash or through the linked credit/debit card in the app, such as YandexGo*. It's worth noting that taxis in Kazakhstan typically do not have portable terminals for physical credit/debit card payments.
Hotel shuttles:
  • You can arrange for a shuttle bus or taxi services from the hotel when booking your accommodation.
Public Transportation
  • You can also travel by public transport. From the airport - take the bus #10 and 12 and leave at the station Nazarbayev University.  The buses run every 10 or 15 minutes between 6 am and 11 pm. NOTE: Buses DO NOT accept cash. You should use the special apps for payment. Please see below the payment section.
From the city centre
  • Nazarbayev University is very easily accessible by taking buses 10, 12, 18, 37, 40, 47, 51, 53. To see the bus route please visit online maps or the Astra Bus app, or 2gis.kz.
